Christian D. Larson originally
published a slightly different version in 1912 in his book titled:
"Your Forces and How to Use Them" Larson was a prolific writer
having published forty books, is credited with contributions to several
magazines and periodicals, as well as a reputed lecturer who believed
that people have tremendous latent powers, which could be harnessed for
success with the proper attitude..
He adapted this creed for the
Optimist International Association in 1922 and later it became known as
the Optimists Creed. This inspirational message is still being
used today in hospitals to help patients recover, by athletic teams to
motivate players, and is being embraced by people around the world for
its profound meaning.
I really like the whole history of
the creed and the impact it has had on people for close to a century.
I was a member of Optimists International when I was twelve, with the
optimist boys choir. As a side note I sang beside Vic Garber.
He's the famous actor who was the man who built the Titanic in the movie
and went down with the ship. He also did a traveling road show of
Liberace.
